HOSPITALITY DESIGN

Cabachon Boutique Hotel | Fall 2011

Programs used: Autodesk AutoCAD, Google Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop

CONCEPT

The design for Cabochon Hotel is to create a modern space that is flashy, but also elegant.  The inspiration for the design comes from a jewel.  The jewel is reflected throughout by the use of colors and contrast of shapes among them.  The process of jewel mining is an industrial and masculine process, while the finished jewel is very glamorous and feminine.  The design of Cabochon Hotel is focused on contrast.  The industrial-glam atmosphere gives a strong contrast of materials, colors, shapes, and also feminity against masculinity.  Metals and shiny materials are used to give off an industrial feel, while wood and plush materials are used to give a more glamorous effect. Silver and metalics, which give off a feeling of sophistication, are used in contrast with pops of jewel tones, which make the space more radiant and young.
